I’ve been on vacation from work for the past few days. This is the vacation I usually take every year by myself, with no other thought but to work on music. It seems to be working – I’ve got a song down in rough demo form that I’ve been wanting to record for ages. It may not be quite “ready for prime time,” but I’m so pleased with the way it’s come out (and so anxious to start using the “My Songs” post category I set up long ago) that I’ve decided to post it here.
So without further ado…

Distract Me
Words and music by Andrew Thomas ©2004
White noise drowning out a choir of angels
The static sticks inside my brain
If only I could get a lock on the signal
‘Cause this lack of focus is driving me insane
Waste no time determining the sources
I’m sending out an S.O.S. to the sky
Calling all stations – I surrender
Maintaining silence so I can hear you
Chorus:
Oh, distract me with your love
Oh, distract me with your love
Turn my gaze unto the things that will not fade
Oh, distract me
Oh, distract me
Oh, distract me with your love
Gridlock gumming up the system
And pop-ups covering the screen
There’s a message buried underneath the grand disorder
What could it all mean?
Well, we’re moving on forward in all directions
Our compass going crazy in the magnetic field
Well, point my eyes toward the true north
Turn my hear to what is real
Chorus
Conditions improving,
The Spirit is moving,
Erasing these distortions…
Chorus
