This past October, I started

This past October, I started reading the Bible again with the intention of reading it all the way through, front to back. It’s now April, and I just finished Joshua, which should tell you how well I’ve kept up with it…
Anyway, I’ve just recently discovered the Bible reading plan in the back of my NIV Quest Study Bible, which is a mix of Old- and New Testament books. Having just finished Joshua (which is a very interesting read in this time of war – can a nation still be used to judge another nation’s sin by waging war against it?), I figured I’d start filling in the checkboxes on the reading plan, and am now catching up on the New Testament readings I haven’t done, starting from Matthew onward.
It’s amazing – no matter how often I read them, Jesus’s words in Matthew’s gospel (indeed, just His words) touch the soul, beyond what mere words should be able to do. Even in those times that I don’t know what’s being stirred within, I can tell that these words are reverberating beyond the page, rippling through time. I’m sure this sounds utterly pretentious, but just to know He said those words over 2000 years ago and they still mean something to this day is simply amazing.
